Description
The grapes for this wine came from the upper section of Renaissance’s “Slope 1″, a tiny (~1 acre) site which was considered their ‘best’ quality Cabernet Sauvignon. A south-west facing shoulder at 1900+ ft elevation, offering the perfect exposure and depth of soil for this grape to mature perfectly (here, in North Yuba, we find that our Cabernet is extremely ‘fussy’ and unforgiving about these aspects). Like elsewhere in that vineyard, the soil was decomposed volcanic rock.
It is medium-full bodied, with the famed Renaissance “austere elegance”. It shows a powerful structure, perfectly matched by extra-ordinary concentration and density of texture.
This is the first release of this cuvée, which we believe will age for 4+ decades in a proper cellar, likely longer than any other of the vintages produced at Renaissance in its history. In order to help you not commit infanticide, we hold it back for 10 years prior to release.
