Description

From the pre Clos Saron half-acre section of the Home Vineyard, originally planted in 1979, came the fruit for this cuvée. East-facing, gently sloping at 1550-1600 ft. elevation, this vineyard site is planted in brownish-yellow clay-loam topsoil and volcanic ash and quartz subsoil, and has been dry-farmed since around 2010. This cuvée is produced only in years when we happen to harvest a full barrel worth of grapes in one pass through the site. At Clos Saron, we harvest our vineyards in consecutive weekly passes, exclusively picking clusters that are ripe to the touch (just like assessing the ripeness of an avocado by a gentle squeeze), essentially making a “cluster select” type wine (widely associated only with late-harvest wine) from our whole crop.

Medium bodied, aromatically expansive, with bright acidity, intense minerality, and a good phenolic structure. Perfect ripeness and dense texture, great balance. This wine will crawl towards full maturity over a couple of decades.
