Between 2004 and 2010 we leased and farmed seven acres of vineyard on the neighboring Renaissance property. This was the source of fruit for our Carte Blanche, Tickled Pink, and three red blends: Heart of Stone Syrah, Black Pearl, and La Cuvee Mysterieuse.
Spring 2010 brought us three waves of frost, which devastated our vineyards and destroyed 80% of our crop. Our entire harvest of red grapes was barely sufficient to make one small batch of wine, instead of the intended three. We have named it “Spring Frost”.
The good news is that, in our view, this wine turned out to be one of our finest efforts ever. It shows an exceptional degree of precision, elegance, and balance. Medium bodied, with real concentration, purity, and aromatic complexity. It is a wine to enjoy over the next 2-3 decades, at any point you feel like it… Don’t waste it on blind tastings, enjoy it at the dinner table over a few hours time to show its best!
Varietal makeup: 40% Merlot, 27% Petit Verdot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Syrah, and 6% Sauvignon Blanc.
