2010 will unfortunately go down in our records as one of the most challenging growing seasons we have ever experienced. A cool, wet spring, sprinkled with repeated frosts resulted in the latest and most uneven flowering in our history. Well into July, some of the vines are not fully finished with bloom! This will certainly result in a late and extended harvest. All in all, we estimate our frost-related loss this year to about 50% of our crop. Most severely hit were the two Pinot Noir vineyards with a complete loss of the Texas Hill Road (yet once again) and about 80-90% loss at the Home Vineyard. There will be precious little Pinot made at Clos Saron this year. Now summer has taken over, finally, with fairly normal weather conditions for this time of the year. The vines grow at an amazing rate, trying to catch up… and creating a tangled mess in the process. We are doing our best to keep up with them.

On a more pastural note, Saron has added a flock of geese to our little farm and we have just finished their pen and playgounds; that's were they spend the nights. During the day, they're having fun at the pond. Not a bad life!
